Suitcases Banned In This European City. Here's Why
The city of Dubrovnik is breathtaking, both for its natural beauty and for the fascinating colours and textures of its architecture. Its popularity as a travel destination in Europe is largely due to this.
The city of Dubrovnik draws hundreds of thousands of visitors annually, making Croatia one of the most gorgeous countries in all of Europe.
However, a new policy that has been introduced to this beautiful city has surprised tourists all over the world who want to make a visit to this city.
According to The New York Post, Dubrovnik residents have complained about noise pollution when tourists drag their suitcases around the city's famed stone-paved and cobbled streets, claiming that the act keeps them up at night.
And because of this, Mayor Mato Frankovic has introduced new rules that will ban tourists from dragging wheeled suitcases around the winding roads in Dubrovnik's Old Town. Visitors who do choose to carry their bags face a hefty fine of $288 (Rs 23630).
The action is a part of the Dubrovnik Tourist Office's "Respect the City" initiative.
The new portal further mentions that the ban is part of a bigger plan to stop tourists from carrying suitcases in Dubrovnik. According to local reports, starting in November, the local government intends to set up a system where travellers deposit bags outside the city.
According to The Dubrovnik Times, Dubrovnik has continued to be a very popular tourist destination, with 289,000 visitors and 763,500 overnight stays since the year's commencement.
In addition to having streets made of stone, the city's Old Town is renowned for its old walls that surround it, its sunny climate, and for being the location of King's Landing in the hit television series Game of Thrones.

What Is Affirmative Action That US Supreme Court Ruled Against
Affirmative action has been banned in the United States following a decision by the Supreme Court on Thursday that the practice of taking race and ethnicity into account during the college admissions process is unconstitutional. The decision deals a major blow to a decades-old practise that boosted educational opportunities for African-Americans and other minorities, ending decades of precedent that had allowed schools nationwide to use such programmes to increase the diversity of their student bodies.
Also Read | Obamas Slam Affirmative Action Ruling, Trump Calls It "Amazing"
Here is all the information you need to know about the affirmative action policy:
What is Affirmative Action?
Affirmative action aims to counter historical patterns of prejudice against individuals with certain identities. In the context of higher education, affirmative action typically refers to admissions policies aimed at increasing the number of Black, Hispanic, and other minority students on campus.
Colleges and universities that take race into consideration have said they do so as part of a holistic approach that reviews every aspect of an application, including grades, test scores, and extracurricular activities.
The goal of race-conscious admissions policies is to increase student diversity in order to enhance the educational experience for all students. Schools also employ recruitment programmes and scholarship opportunities intended to boost diversity, but the Supreme Court litigation was focused on admissions.
Which academic institutions take race and ethnicity into account?
While many schools do not disclose details about their admissions processes, taking race into account is more common among selective schools that turn down most of their applicants.
In a 2019 survey by the National Association for College Admission Counselling, about a quarter of schools said race had a "considerable" or "moderate" influence on admissions, while more than half reported that race played no role whatsoever.
Nine states have banned the use of race in admissions policies at public colleges and universities: Arizona, California, Florida, Idaho, Michigan, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, and Washington.
What is at issue in the current litigation?
The Supreme Court decided two cases brought by Students for Fair Admissions, a group headed by Edward Blum, a conservative legal strategist who has spent years fighting affirmative action.
One case contended that Harvard's admissions policy unlawfully discriminates against Asian American applicants. The other asserted that the University of North Carolina unlawfully discriminates against white and Asian American applicants.
The schools rejected those claims, saying race is determinative in only a small number of cases and that barring the practice would result in a significant drop in the number of minority students on campus.
What did the Supreme Court say in the ruling?
Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in the majority opinion that while affirmative action was "well-intentioned and implemented in good faith," it could not last forever, and amounted to unconstitutional discrimination against others.
"The student must be treated based on his or her experiences as an individual, not on the basis of race," Roberts wrote.
The court said that universities were free to consider an applicant's background, whether, for example, they grew up experiencing racism, when weighing their application over more academically qualified students.
But deciding primarily based on whether the applicant is white, black, or other is itself racial discrimination, Roberts wrote.
"Our constitutional history does not tolerate that choice," he said.
However, the justices broke six to three along conservative-liberal lines in the decision, which came after years of ring-wing antipathy to "affirmative action" programmes that have sought diversity in school admissions and business and government hiring.

World's First Flying Car Is Now Flight Certified Has A Range Of 177 Kms
Alef Aeronautics's flying car has received legal approval to fly from the US Government. The car company announced that it has received a Special Airworthiness Certification from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), according to Aviation law firm Aero Law Center. It is the first time a vehicle of this nature has been certified in the US.
"The FAA is actively working on its policies for electrical vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicles, as well as governing interactions between eVTOLs and ground infrastructure," Alef Aeronautics said in a statement.
"Alef's Special Airworthiness Certificate, therefore, limits the locations and purpose for which Alef is permitted to fly," the statement added.
Based in San Mateo, California, the flying car is 100 per cent electric and can carry one or two occupants. The car costs roughly $300,000 as it can fly over stopped traffic and accidents on roadways, reported Fox News.
The company unveiled a full-sized sports car along with two working full-size technology demonstrator cars in October 2022. In January, the company said that over 440 of its vehicles had been pre-ordered "from both individuals and corporate consumers."
According to reports, the company hopes to begin delivering flying cars to customers by the end of 2025.
"Alef is aiming to deliver the first real flying car in history, and to receive so many early pre-orders is an incredible validation of the market potential we're looking to satisfy," Jim Dukhovny, Alef's CEO, said in a statement earlier this year.
According to its website, the flying car is being developed for driving on a "regular urban or rural road." It can be parked in a regular parking space and inside a regular-sized garage.
The car won't go faster than 25 miles per hour on a paved surface as it is a low-speed vehicle. "The assumption is that, if a driver needs a faster route, a driver will use Alef's flight capabilities," Alef states on its website.

Want To Stay At Barbie's Malibu Dreamhouse? Now Is Your Chance
One's motivation to travel can range from a need for rest and relaxation, the urge to discover and engage with a new place and culture, or simply to get away from the madding crowd. But theme vacations or 'themecations' are a long-standing travel trend, from a Disneycation to a Jane Austen Retreat and a Beatles pilgrimage tour, there are plenty out there to pick from. Riding on this trend is a well-known online marketplace for short-and long-term homestays that has a new kind of themed holiday retreat up for grabs. Ahead of the movie, Barbie's release this homestay digital portal is offering a staycation at, you guessed it, Barbie's Malibu Dreamhouse. Barbie fans and lovers now get a chance to take a real-life peek at where their favourite doll resides in real and reel life. The all-pink mansion will be hosted by none other than 'Ken' who is played by Ryan Gosling in the upcoming movie. The house is fashioned like the playset from the movie.
This isn't the first time that the uber-pink life-size doll house is available for tourists and Barbie enthusiasts to visit. The post is captioned, 'The Barbie Malibu DreamHouse is back...-but this time, Ken's hosting. While everyone's favourite doll makes her live live-action debut in BARBIE, Ken transformed the pink palace with maximum Kenergy-cowboy hats, rollerblades, you name it. Everyone in Barbie Land can request to book these stays on July 17 at 10 am PT at the link in our bio."
Also Read: These 8 Countries With An Indian Connection Will Make You Feel At Home
The listing continues, 'Situated along the stunning, photogenic coastline, the Malibu DreamHouse is a sunny surfer's sanctuary surrounded by beach, beach and more beach. Once you arrive and check-in, our concierge will ensure a comfortable stay for you and your guest - including showing you around and setting out and arranging meals.' The homestay service concludes the listing by highlighting that the 'one-night stays are not a contest.' The guest is responsible for travel to and from Malibu and the home is privately owned and operated.
The other interesting facts about the stay are that it includes taking a spin through Ken's wardrobe to find your best beach fit, learning a dance or two on the outdoor disco dance floor or performing a sunset serenade on the guitar, plenty of sunbathing and chillaxing by the infinity pool and taking home a piece of Kendom with a set of yellow-and-pink Impala skates and a surfboard. That's a travel package that could entice even those ascribe to the Barbie school of fun.
If what you've seen isn't enough, here's an aerial view of the house.
Spotted this thing from 10 miles away flying over #Malibu today. Is that a.... real-life #Barbie Malibu House?? Seems to be. Pink everything... a water slide... floating "KEN" letters. Publicity stunt? Huge Barbie fan? Filming location #BarbieMovie? Who knows. @kcalnews pic.twitter.com/6x9gEcFoVf
— John Schreiber (@johnschreiber) June 26, 2023
Twitter was set ablaze as the news about the mansion being open to the public broke. While a few users were extremely excited about the news, one question that was often raised, was why the stay was meant for only two people when it is actually a Barbie mansion.
"Why can only two people stay at a time? It's a whole mansion. I wanna go w my girls" commented one user.
Another retweeted with, 'Looks like it could accommodate 20+. Must be an insurance, no party thing. Though I don't see many if any, couples who have a Ken/Barbie fantasy. But I could be wrong.'
While yet another user tweeted, 'I promise I won't have a party... I just wanna have a sleepover w my girl friends'
While this could well be a great marketing strategy for the movie that is set to release mid-next month, we have no doubt that there will be more than a few themecation enthusiasts that will venture over to the Malibu Dreamhouse not just for the love of Barbie.

Amid Adipurush Backlash Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan To Telecast On TV
Amid the Adipurush controversy, the iconic teleserial Ramayana from the late 1980s is set to be telecasted again. Taking to Instagram, channel Shemaroo Tv shared the promo of the super hit show Ramayan and captioned it in Hindi, "We are bringing to you all dear viewers the world-famous mythological serial "Ramayan"... Watch "Ramayan" from 3rd July at 7:30 PM only on your favourite channel #ShemarooTV."
View this post on Instagram
The mythological show will begin airing from July 3 at 7:30 pm on the Shemaroo Tv channel. Ramanand Sagar directed Ramayana was a popular serial in the late 1980s. The series featured Arun Govil as Ram, Deepika Chikhalia as Sita and Sunil Lahri as Lakshman. Late Dara Singh portrayed Hanuman and Arvind Trivedi was featured as Ravana. The show was originally telecast from January 25, 1987 to July 31, 1988 and received massive responses from the audience.
The announcement of the show returning to the TV screens came at a time when it was being compared with Om Raut's recently released Pan-India film Adipurush on social media.
Soon after the makers unveiled the promo of Ramayan fans flooded the comment section with red heart emoticons. "Jai SiyaRam," a fan commented. Another fan wrote, "Jai Shree Ram."
Earlier in 2020, during the covid-lockdown, Doordarshan decided to re-telecast the mythological series on public demand, Union Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Minister Prakash Javadekar informed.
Talking about 'Adipurush', the film, which is a dramatic retelling of Ramayana, faced backlash on social media for its poor VFX and controversial dialogues including marega bete, bua ka bagicha hain kya and jalegi tere baap ki. From critics to reviewers, several people from across the country have expressed disappointment over the film's certain dialogues. In the wake of such flak, the makers of Adipurush revamped the dialogues.
Talking exclusively to ANI, Ramanand Sagar's son Prem Sagar earlier said, "Manoj Muntashir is well-informed about Hinduism. I don't understand how he even conceived such dialogues in the film. It might be a misjudgement that the younger generation would like it. But you can't do this with the audience. Don't say it is based on Valmiki Ramayan, give it any other name. Make it a 'fantasy' film. But if you're making Ramayan then you cannot hurt the sentiments. People watch this with devotion."
"I have seen the clips of the movie and had a lot of interaction with people like Sunil Lehri (who played Laxman in Ramanand Sagar's 'Ramayan'), so some problem is there. I don't even want to watch the film. Ravan was very knowledgeable and you are blackening the golden Lanka (sone ki Lanka), and his look with 5 heads up and 5 heads down," he added.
Actor Sunil Lahri, who played Laxman in Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan, earlier told ANI, "I have seen the film. I am very disappointed after watching the film... The thought that crossed my mind was, why did I go to see the film? I didn't like the picture at all. There are only two things that I can say I liked about the film -- background music and the cinematography. Barring these two aspects, the film left me sorely disappointed."
"After seeing the picture, I had no clue how to react to it. Setting myself aside, since I played a character in Ramayana, even the people who sat around me at the theatre were not happy watching the movie. Two women sat saying to each other, 'Let's get up and take a walk. What nonsense are we watching?' To that, the other woman said, 'Let's see the visual effects if nothing else'. A man sitting next to me told his friend, 'What are they showing in the name of Ramayana?'" he added.
Directed by Om Raut, Adipurush stars Prabhas as Lord Ram, Kriti Sanon as Goddess Sita, Sunny Singh as Laxman and Saif Ali Khan as Ravan.

At Lust Stories 2 Premiere Tamannaah-Vijay Mrunal And Other Celebs
The most-awaited anthology Lust Stories 2 is only two days away from its release on June 29. Ahead of it, the stellar cast of Lust Stories 2 and others from the Bollywood fraternity arrived in style for its grand premiere night. Vijay Varma and Tamannaah, one of the lead pairs of the anthology series walked the red carpet together while looking stunning. The duo made heads turn as they posed for the paparazzi together and were all smiles. Tamannaah slipped into a monochrome dress for the big night while Vijay Varma looked dapper in a black suit.
Take a look at Tamannaah and Vijay's OOTN:
Actress Mrunal Thakur, who also stars in Lust Stories 2, graced the red carpet in a stunning pink gown. The actress was also pictured with Angad Bedi, who is paired opposite her in the anthology.
Here's how Mrunal Thakur walked the red carpet:
Lust Stories 2 stars Neena Gupta, Tillotama Shome, Amruta Shubhash and director Konkona Sen Sharma were also spotted at the premiere, dressed in their festive best. While Neena Gupta stole the limelight in a lovely saree, Tillotama Shome, Amruta Shubhash and Konkona Sen Sharma looked equally gorgeous in their party wear.
Take a look:
Besides the star cast, other members of the film fraternity also marked their presence at the star-studded event. Angad Bedi's wife and actress Neha Dhupia arrived for the premiere night in a pretty black dress. Irrfan Khan's son Babil Khan looked stylish in black attire.
Actresses Shweta Tripathi Sharma, Saiyami Kher, and Minissha Lamba added to the glam quotient with their stunning appearances.
Meanwhile, Lust Stories 2 actors Tamannaah and Vijay Varma are hogging all the limelight with their pairing in the anthology. Recently, Tamannaah Bhatia, in her interview with Film Companion, revealed that she has broken her 18-year-old no-kiss policy for her segment in Lust Stories 2. “I really wanted to work with Sujoy and I'm really happy that he thought of me for this part especially because I have done literally no intimacy in my career or very little intimacy in my career. I was that audience that would get awkward and I was that audience that ‘main ye kabhi nahi karungi', ‘main kabhi nahi kiss karungi on-screen.'"
She added, "I was that person so for me it has been an evolution to kind of get out of that framework, which served a certain audience because India is huge and there are so many parts of India that still needs to evolve. There is a lot of evolution that has happened already, thanks to even internet and social media, everyone has information at their fingertips but I do feel like — because everyone's consuming so much content — I felt like as an actor, I don't want this to be something that is holding me back...This was purely a creative endeavour. Now, after 18 years, I am not trying to be famous. That is not my driving force."
On Wednesday, the makers dropped the trailer of the second instalment of Lust Stories. As anticipated, Vijay and Tamannaah's chemistry was off the charts and kept the fans hooked throughout the trailer. Take a look at the trailer here:
Lust Stories 2 is an anthology of four stories directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, Konkona Sen Sharma, R Balki and Sujoy Ghosh.

2 Suspects Arrested Others Identified In Delhi Robbery Case: Cops
Two men have been apprehended in connection with the daylight robbery inside the Pragati Maidan tunnel here, police said on Monday.
According to the police, the remaining suspects have been identified and raids are being conducted to arrest them.
A delivery agent and his associate were allegedly robbed of Rs 2 lakh at gunpoint by four unidentified men inside the Pragati Maidan tunnel on Saturday when the victims were going towards Gurugram in a cab to deliver the money.
Further investigation is underway into the matter.
After the CCTV visuals of the incident surfaced on social media, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal hit out at Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena demanding his resignation.
"LG shud (should) resign. Make way for someone who can provide safety n (and) security to the people of Delhi. If the Central govt is unable to make Delhi safe, hand it over to us. We will show u (you) how to make a city safe for its citizens," the Delhi CM tweeted and posted the video of the accident.
Delhi Minister Atishi also took to Twitter and said, "LG sir: If you get free time from taking credit for @ArvindKejriwal's work, then sometimes pay attention to your constitutional responsibility. It is your job to provide security to the people of Delhi. And now incidents of theft, dacoity and murder are happening in Delhi in broad daylight. Either you take the responsibility of security, or else resign."

"Acted As Per Regulations": Adani On Reports Over US Regulator Scrutiny
The Adani Group has said their disclosures are "a matter of public record" and they are not aware of any "subpoena to the US investors" following reports that US authorities are looking into what representations the group made to its American investors.
The reports, quoting un-named sources, had said inquiries started from the US Attorney's office in Brooklyn after US short-seller Hindenburg's allegations.
In a statement today, the Adani Group said, "All of our disclosures are a matter of public record. It is routine that various regulators will seek access to public material in an easy & referenceable manner".
The Adani Portfolio Companies and its businesses "have acted as per the regulations and accounting standards of the jurisdictions in which they operate," read the statement, which also pointed out that the expert committee appointed by the Supreme Court has filed a report on the matter.
"The report states that Adani Group has taken mitigation measures such as paring down debt, fresh infusion, which led to increase in investor confidence. SEBI (Indian securities regulator) is examining certain aspects and their queries are being responded by Adani portfolio entities. We request to avoid needless speculation at this time and wait for SEBI and the Hon'ble Supreme Court to complete their work and submit their findings," the statement read.
"Adani operates a robust corporate governance framework and is strongly committed to following all applicable laws and regulations," the Group added.
Requests for information from US prosecutors do not mean that criminal or civil proceedings will automatically follow. Law enforcement agencies often hold inquiries that do not lead to action.
The Adani Group has dismissed the Hindenburg allegations as lies, saying it complies with all laws and disclosure requirements.
In March, the Supreme Court set up a six-member committee of experts to examine issues arising out of the stock crash triggered by Hindenburg's allegations. The court also said market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) should complete its ongoing investigation within two months and file a status report.

Kerala Man Shuts Self In Vande Bharat Washroom Brought Out By Force
In a weird turn of events aboard the Vande Bharat Express on Sunday, a man boarded the train from the northern Kasaragod district of Kerala and then shut himself inside one of its washrooms refusing to come out from there, Railway officials said.
He was brought out only after the train reached Shornur railway station in Palakkad after breaking open the washroom door, officials said.
Dressed in a red striped t-shirt, the man looked scared when he was taken out of the washroom, according to visuals of the incident shown on TV channels.
The visuals later showed him being questioned by Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials on the station platform.
Railway officials said that initially the man claimed he was from Maharashtra and was speaking in Hindi, but later he said that he was from Kasaragod and therefore, his identity was yet to be ascertained.
The man did not have a ticket either, they added.
He also told the RPF that someone was after him and while trying to run away from them he got into the washroom and shut himself inside it, the officials said.
They also said that he deliberately did not come out of the washroom despite repeated directions of RPF and other officials when the train stopped at Kannur and Kozhikode stations.

"Wild Arrogance On Part Of England...": Ex-Australia Star's Startling Take
Former Australian pace bowler Brett Geeves believes England's ultra-aggressive approach is likely to backfire during the Ashes, adding that the declaration on day one of the first Test at Edgbaston was a sign of "wild arrogance" on the part of Ben Stokes' side. England had declared their first innings on 393 for eight despite Joe Root batting on an unbeaten 118, and the home side could have easily scored a few more, which could have given them a psychological advantage. The decision to declare was criticised by several experts and Australia went on to win the thrilling Test by two wickets.
Geeves, who has played one ODI and two T20Is for Australia and has been a successful first-class bowler, said 'Bazball' -- the term coined for England's overly aggressive and result-oriented style of play -- is unlikely to work against Australia.
"It (Bazball) sets them (England) up to fail and to me it kind of feels like 'even if we lose we're playing the best cricket and we have won anyway," Geeves told Sen Radio on Saturday.
"That's not how it works. Particularly against Australia in the Ashes," opined the 41-year-old.
He said it was "disrespectful" on the part of England coach Brendon McCullum to tell his players that he was proud of them despite the defeat. Geeves opined, the coach was undermining the efforts of the Australians by saying this.
"There was (an) article that I was reading that quotes Brendon McCullum in terms of their loss, they're in the changer rooms and Brendon spoke first and he says; 'Lads, I am immensely proud of the effort you put in. We have made the game what it was. We were so close to pulling off an unbelievable victory. We played all the cricket in the game. If it wasn't for us the Australians wouldn't have even had a chance to win'." "It is just a really disrespectful approach to the performances of Pat Cummins and the performance of the run chase and their ability to hold England to 276 in the best batting conditions of the game." Australia skipper Cummins scored an unbeaten 44 and partner Nathan Lyon struck 16 not out, when the chips were down, to take the visitors to the winning target of 282 set by England.
Geeves indicated Australia have a few tricks up their sleeve and they will continue to improve as the five-Test series progresses.
"Australia's still got some improvement. They'll get a little bit more out of their batting list as the series progresses and strategically if they can get their mindset right from a fielding and strategy standpoint, I think they are going to do very well.
"In particular if England have this mindset of wild arrogance and that's what that declaration was. It was wildly arrogant to think that (8/393) was enough in the first innings on a very flat wicket.
"And yes, absolutely, they (Australia) won the game on the back of the English's ridiculously dumb declaration. There is no doubt that England played a part in their win." He said that had England not declared and scored another 50-60 runs, they could have batted Australia out of the contest.
"They (England) could have come back the next day and tried to bat for another 50 or 60 runs which would have batted Australia out of the game, only one team would have been able to win the game had they made 450 or 460 and that was England," he said.
"It's because of the arrogance surrounding their approach to the game. 8/393 declared, you don't do that in Test match cricket. You don't do that across a five-day game when Joe Root is 118 not out." The second Test begins at Lord's on Jun 28.

"Frankenstein's Monster": How Ex Ally Turned Into Biggest Threat For Putin
President Vladimir Putin has long profited from the actions of the Wagner mercenary group, but the mutiny led by its chief Yevgeny Prigozhin presents the Russian strongman with a challenge that could irreparably damage his authority, analysts say.
During its decade-long existence, Wagner's operations in Africa, Syria and eastern Ukraine have served Putin's political interests, with the president appearing to relish, rather than fear, the internal rivalries created by its success.
But now the organisation, whose development was encouraged by Putin, has turned against him.
Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin -- once seen as a close ally and known as "Putin's chef" due to past Kremlin catering contracts rather than culinary prowess -- has moved into open revolt.
The speed and severity of Putin's address to the nation after Prigozhin said his troops had taken control of the military command centre and bases in the southern city of Rostov-on-Don, shows how seriously he regards the threat.
While the Russian state maintains the military might be able to put down the rebellion and even crush Wagner, the crisis risks inflicting permanent damage to Putin, who for two-and-a-half decades has prided himself on standing on top of an unchallenged vertical power structure.
"Putin's unambiguous position is to put down the rebellion. And hard," Tatiana Stanovaya, head of the R. Politik political analysis firm, said on her Telegram channel, arguing that Prigozhin was "doomed," even it it could take "a long time" to bring him down.
But she added: "Many inside the elite will personally blame Putin for the fact that everything went so far and that there was no proper reaction from the president in good time. Therefore, this whole story is also a blow to Putin's positions."
The UK ministry of defence said in its daily intelligence update that the "loyalty of Russia's security forces... will be key to how the crisis plays out."
'Usefulness to Putin'
The Wagner outfit had taken a prime role in Putin's invasion of Ukraine, taking on the most dangerous frontline work, as the regular army appeared to falter, while sustaining what Western sources have described as colossal losses.
"For a long time, Prigozhin was allowed to attack the elite due to his usefulness at the front, as well as for some usefulness to Putin himself," said Alexander Baunov, senior fellow at the Carnegie Russia Eurasia Center.
But the war also emboldened Prigozhin, who for the first time openly admitted he had founded the group after years of denial, and openly recruited new members in Russian prison camps.
He also took to launching brazen verbal attacks against the Russian defence ministry.
His posturing was seen initially as a boost to the Kremlin's war effort but then as a rare and open challenge to Putin, who appeared to keep the group at arm's length and never held a public meeting with Prigozhin during the conflict.
Prigozhin waged what grew into a personal vendetta against Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, widely seen as one of Putin's few personal friends within the Russian elite, who has hosted the president for holidays in his home southern Siberian region.
Baunov argued that the moment Prigozhin resolved to "cross the line" came on June 13 when Putin announced that mercenary groups like Wagner would have to be subject to control of the defence ministry, something the mercenary boss had long opposed.
In Putin's icy address on Saturday he pointedly did not refer to Prigozhin by name, a tactic he also uses concerning the jailed opposition figure Alexei Navalny.
'Frankenstein's monster'
James Nixey, director of the Russia-Eurasia Programme, at UK thinktank Chatham House, described Prigozhin "as something of a Frankenstein's monster" who may have had "a licence at some point... to shock the Russian army into more effective warfighting."
"However, that has gone way beyond anything that Putin would ever have envisaged now," he told AFP.
While Prigozhin does not have the "manpower, troops or support" to take Moscow, let alone the entire country, it still "is the first direct serious challenge to Putin's authority in 24 years" of rule.
Prigozhin's conduct contrasts with that of the strongman of the southern Russian region of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, who also built up his own private militia force but has remained staunchly loyal to the Kremlin.
He has already vowed to send Chechen units to put down the revolt saying that if "harsh measures are necessary, we are ready."
"Moscow has every chance of regaining control," said the prominent French political scientist Anna Colin Lebedev.
"But this unprecedented situation confirms to the elites that the time for stability is over, and that the state that we thought was all-powerful has flaws. The seat of power today is a slightly more shaky chair than it was yesterday," she said.

"Need To Forget Differences" Arvind Kejriwal Told Rahul Gandhi: Sources
Amid confusion over the Congress' stance on the Centre's Delhi ordinance, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal told Rahul Gandhi to forget the differences and move forward together at the opposition meeting in Patna, AAP sources said on Saturday.
"Arvind Kejriwal spoke directly to Rahul Gandhi (on the ordinance matter) and said if there is any issue, they can resolve it over tea. In the opposition meeting on Friday, Kejriwal said there is a need to forget the differences and move forward together," a party source said.
Given the situation, he said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is yet to decide if it will attend the opposition parties' next meeting scheduled in Shimla.
The plan of action is expected to be formulated at another meeting to be chaired by Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, tentatively on July 10 or 12, in Shimla. Drawing the battle lines, opposition parties had on Friday resolved to take on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unitedly in 2024 Lok Sabha elections at the crucial meeting in Patna.
In a statement on Friday, the AAP had said that any alliance with the Congress would be very difficult after its war of words with the grand old party over the contentious Delhi ordinance issue.
At the opposition meet in Patna, many parties urged the Congress to publicly denounce the "black ordinance", but the grand old party refused to do so which raises suspicions about its real intentions, the AAP had said in the statement soon after the meeting.
AAP sources claimed that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee at the meeting intervened and said Mr Gandhi and Mr Kejriwal should sit together for lunch so that all the issues get addressed.
Sources in the AAP also claimed that at the end of the meeting, Mr Kharge alleged that a spokesperson of AAP was making 'wrong' statements about the Congress.
"In response, our national convener Arvind Kejriwal clearly stated that Congress spokespersons had also made misleading statements against AAP. Having said that, there is a need to forget the differences and come together," the source added.
The source said Rahul Gandhi stressed that there was a process to discuss about the contentious Delhi ordinance.
"Kejriwal asked the Congress to specify the time for the next meeting, but the Congress leaders were non-responsive. All the top opposition leaders present during the meeting had urged the Congress to clarify its stand on the ordinance and fix a meeting to discuss the same," the source said.
The AAP source also said that party chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal specified that his party had always stood by the Congress in the right matters.
"Even when Rahul Gandhi's Lok Sabha membership was cancelled, Kejriwal had opposed it. If Gandhi and the Congress are afraid to meet AAP leaders, forging of opposition unity is doubtful. We have been constantly asking for an appointment with the leadership, but the Congress has refused to budge," he said.
The AAP source also said that although the Kharge-led party has maintained that it has always raised its voice against any draconian law, but it has largely remained mum on the Delhi ordinance issue.
Although Mr Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP's Rajya Sabha MPs Sanjay Singh and Raghav Chadha attended the opposition meeting, they remained conspicuous by their absence at the joint press conference held by the opposition parties later.
The BJP took a potshot at the absence of Mr Kejriwal at the opposition parties' joint press conference in Patna and said the AAP's "blackmailing" at the beginning of the meeting itself showed the future of the "unholy alliance".
Mr Kharge, however, said a decision on whether to oppose the Centre's ordinance on the control of administrative services in Delhi would be taken before the Parliament session and wondered why it was being talked about elsewhere when the matter pertained to Parliament.

Video: Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese Tries Out Indian Food
The area in the Sydney suburb of Harris Park shone a little brighter than usual on June 23rd as Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese tried out Indian street food like chaat and jalebi at the Little India, as recommended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit here last month.
Mr Albanese tweeted about the experience and also shared a video of himself enjoying Indian food.
"Great Friday night in Little India, Harris Park with Andrew Charlton. We tried out Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recommendations of chaat at Chatkazz and jalebi at Jaipur Sweets a winner!," Mr Albanese tweeted.

Harris Park, located in Parramatta, is home to a large Indian community. It is a well-known destination for Indian cuisine and several Indian-owned businesses and shops.
PM Modi and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese last month laid the foundation stone of the 'Little India' gateway at the event at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney.
Prime Minister Modi responded to the tweet by saying, "Sounds like a memorable Friday night, imbibing the best of Indian culture and culinary diversity. A winner indeed, like the India-Australia friendship." Modi, during his visit to Australia last month, addressed a community event in Sydney.
During the address, he said: "I've heard that Chatkazz 'Chaat' and 'Jalebi' from Jaipur Sweets at Harris Park are very delicious. I want you all to take my friend Australian PM Albanese to that place."

Opposition Fumes Over Himanta Sarma's "Many Hussain Obama In India" Remark
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday claimed that there are many “Hussain Obama in India” and his priority will be in dealing with them, reacting to a social media post speculating if Assam police will go to arrest former US president Barack Obama over his remarks on the alleged vulnerability of minorities in India. His remark has drawn opposition flak with leaders asking if he was "disregarding" statements made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the US.
"There are many Hussain Obama in India itself. We should prioritize taking care of them before considering going to Washington. The Assam police will act according to our own priorities," the BJP leader wrote on Twitter, sharing a post by a prominent journalist.
Congres spokesperson Supriya Shrinate condemned his remark and asked, "What is the PM, MEA and Government of India's stand on this?"
‘My friend Barack' is now Hussain Obama!
— Supriya Shrinate (@SupriyaShrinate) June 23, 2023
Actually Himanta has answered what PM Modi was asked at White House.
His insinuation - about President Obama being a muslim and Indian Muslims need to be taught a lesson - was the question's premise.
What is the PM, MEA and Govt of… https://t.co/a5HISKtsWY
The tweet by the journalist had asked if the Assam police will go to the US to arrest the former US president. "Has an FIR been filed in Guwahati yet against Obama for hurting sentiment? Is Assam police on its way to Washington to get Obama offloaded from some flight and arrest him?" the journalist wrote.
The tweet was apparently referring to FIRs being lodged in Assam against opposition leaders over their remarks in different parts of the country.
Assam police had travelled to different locations and even made arrests, including deplaning and apprehending Congress leader Pawan Khera in February and arresting then-Independent Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani last year.
The NCP has termed Mr Sarma's comment as distasteful and that it undermines PM Modi's assertion during the US visit that there is no religion-based discrimination in India. "Either he (Mr Sarma) did not listen to our PM Narendra Modi ji's statement made in the US, or he is disrespectfully disregarding what he said," said Nationalist Congress Party spokesperson Clyde Crasto.
Obama in an interview to CNN on Thursday had said that India may “pull apart” if the rights of the religious and ethnic minorities are not upheld.
“If the (US) President meets with Prime Minister Modi, then the protection of the Muslim minority in a Hindu majority India is worth mentioning. If I had a conversation with Prime Minister Modi, who I know well, part of my argument would be that if you don't protect the rights of ethnic minorities in India, there is a strong possibility that India would at some point start pulling apart,” Obama had said.
Asserting that democracy is "in our spirit...and flows in our veins", PM Modi on Thursday said there is no question of discrimination in India on the grounds of caste or religion because his government follows the Constitution, which is formed on the basic values of democracy.

Debris Found Near Titanic Wreckage Assessed To Be From Missing Sub: Report
Debris found on the ocean floor on Thursday near the wreck of the Titanic is thought to be from a missing tourist submersible, CNN reported citing an internal US Coast Guard document, a grim development five days into an international search to save the five people aboard.
An unmanned deep-sea robot deployed from a Canadian ship discovered a "debris field" near where the century-old wreck is located, 2-1/2 miles (4 km) below the surface, the U.S. Coast Guuard said earlier on Twitter. The agency has scheduled a press conference for 3 p.m. ET (1900 GMT) to discuss the findings.
The search for survivors is ongoing, according to the memo, CNN reported. It said the debris was from the external body of the vessel.
Rescue teams from several countries have spent days searching thousands of square miles of open seas with planes and ships for any sign of the 22-foot (6.7-meter) Titan, operated by US-based OceanGate Expeditions.
The submersible lost contact on Sunday morning with its support ship about an hour and 45 minutes into what should have been a two-hour descent.
The five people aboard included the British billionaire and explorer Hamish Harding, 58; Pakistani-born business magnate Shahzada Dawood, 48, and his 19-year-old son, Suleman, both British citizens; French oceanographer and Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet, 77, who had visited the wreck dozens of times; and Stockton Rush, the American founder and chief executive of OceanGate, who was piloting the submersible.
"He is where he really loved being," Nargeolet's daughter, Sidonie, said on Thursday before the discovery of the debris was announced.
The detection of undersea noises on Tuesday and Wednesday using sonar buoys dropped from Canadian aircraft had temporarily offered hope that the people on board the submersible were alive and trying to communicate by banging on the hull.
But officials warned that analysis of the sound was inconclusive and that the noises might not have emanated from the Titan at all.
Even if the Titan was intact, the air supply on board was estimated at 96 hours when it entered the water on Sunday around 8 a.m. (1200 GMT), meaning that the occupants likely would have run out of oxygen by Thursday morning.
The Titanic, which sank in 1912 on its maiden voyage after hitting an iceberg, killing more than 1,500 people, lies about 900 miles (1,450 km) east of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and 400 miles (640 km) south of St. John's, Newfoundland.
The expedition to the wreck, which OceanGate has been operating since 2021, cost $250,000 per person, according to OceanGate's website.
Questions about Titan's safety were raised in 2018 during a symposium of submersible industry experts and in a lawsuit by OceanGate's former head of marine operations, which was settled later that year.
The sweeping search has covered more than 10,000 square miles of ocean - about the size of the US state of Massachusetts. On Thursday, the deployment of two specialized deep-sea unmanned vehicles expanded the effort to the ocean's depths, where immense pressure and pitch-black darkness had promised to complicate any rescue mission.
The missing submersible and subsequent hunt have captured worldwide attention, in part due to the mythology surrounding the Titanic. The "unsinkable" British passenger liner has inspired both nonfiction and fiction accounts for a century, including the James Cameron blockbuster 1998 movie, which rekindled popular interest in the story.

Video: Smoke On Mumbai-Bound Train Triggers Chaos In Chennai
A Mumbai-bound train witnessed chaotic scenes in Chennai this evening as passengers ran for their lives seeing smoke on board.
The express train (12164) left Chennai Central at 6:20 pm for Lokmanya Tilak Terminus in Mumbai, and the smoke incident was reported near Basin Bridge around 6:45 pm.
The Railways clarified there was no fire involved.
"It was only an incident of smoke emitting from HOG (Head on Generation) coupler due to ingression of water. The smoke emission occurred from HOG connector between locomotive and power car," the Railways said.
Smoke was seen emanating from the train as panic-stricken passengers rushed out and ran for their lives.
The loco pilot stopped the train immediately and the smoke was arrested by uncoupling the HOG connector, the Railways said.
The train began its journey at 7:22 pm without any other technical issue, it said.
'Head on Generation' locomotive is an energy efficiency system that draws power from the overhead equipment through loco pantograph and caters to the power requirement of the coaches.
A few weeks ago, an air-conditioned coach of Durg-Puri Express caught fire in Odisha, but no casualties were reported. The fire was confined to the brake pads and there was no damage, the East Coast Railway had then said.

US Firefighters Free A Puppy Trapped Behind The Toilet Of Its Owner
Firefighters were called to the scene when a little dog was stuck in a bathroom of a Texas home. After some battle, the crew managed to free the dog.
The Woodlands Fire Department said in a Facebook post that this morning the crew from E102 was confronted with an unusual problem. A small dog had managed to wedge himself behind a toilet.
"Firefighters found that "Tippy" was well and truly stuck. They tried several things, but in the end they had to remove a small amount of Sheetrock to free the pinned pooch."
"Tippy was returned to his owner and was last seen dozing comfortably in a much less precarious place," the post said.
"It's just another day! Saving Tippy, our town, you and me! Thank you, TWFD," commented a user on the Facebook post.
Similar to how most dog-related videos do, the Facebook post attracted a lot of attention from social media users.
In a similar manner, a few days ago, a video of a dog playing fetch with a homeless girl went viral online. The sweet video has amassed many reactions on social media.
The video was shared by an Instagram page that goes by the name Tuffy Brown Boxer. In the short clip, the little girl is seen standing outdoors while the dog is inside the house's compound. The girl throws the ball at the dog, and each time he catches it. Then the furry animal tosses the ball back to the girl.
The girl and the dog both seem to be enjoying the sweet game. The highlight of the whole video is the fact that the girl danced and smiled happily each time the dog caught the ball. "Innocent friendships like this" reads the text in the video along with a blue heart emoji.
Since being shared, the clip has amassed 6.4 million views and 84,000 likes.
