Audi Driver Drags Motorcyclist On Bonnet For 3 Km Post Argument In Pune

The driver of an Audi allegedly dragged a motorcycle rider on the car's bonnet for more than 3km after an argument in Pimpri-Chinchwad township of Pune district, police said on Tuesday.

Hours after the incident on Sunday evening, police arrested the car driver, Kamlesh Patil (23), and his two associates, Hemant Mhalaskar (26) and Prathamesh Darade (22), who were with him in the high-end vehicle.

According to the police, the victim, Zacheria Mathew, was riding a motorcycle when his two-wheeler was hit by a recklessly driven Audi car in the Bijlinagar area.

"After getting down from his motorbike, Mathew approached the car occupants and sought an explanation. However, the three accused started abusing him and his friend, and also assaulted them. Later, the car driver tried to hit the complainant, leading him to fall on the bonnet. He then allegedly dragged him (Mathew) on the car's bonnet for more than 3km and sped away," said an officer from the Nigdi police station.

A case was registered against the three car occupants, including the driver, and they were arrested under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, he added.

PV Sindhu Set To Get Married On December 22 - Everything You Need To Know

Two-time Olympic medallist shuttler PV Sindhu will tie the knot on December 22 in Udaipur. The former world champion, who ended a long title drought with victory at the Syed Modi International in Lucknow on Sunday, will marry Hyderabad-based Venkata Datta Sai, who is an executive director at Posidex Technologies. "The two families knew each other but it was only a month ago that everything was finalised. This was the only possible window as her schedule will be hectic from January," Sindhu's father, PV Ramana, told PTI.

"So that is the reason the two families decided to have the marriage ceremony on December 22. The reception will be held in Hyderabad on December 24. She will start her training soon after as the next season is going to be important." The wedding-related events will begin on December 20.

Sindhu is regarded as one of India's greatest athletes with five world championship medals, including a gold in 2019, besides her silver and bronze at the Olympic Games.

The champion badminton player won back-to-back Olympic medals at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020, and achieved a career-high world ranking of No. 2 in 2017.

Earlier, PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen advanced into the finals of the Syed Modi International 2024 badminton tournament in Lucknow on Saturday.

Sindhu set herself up with the opportunity to end a two-year-long title drought on the BWF World Tour.

PV Sindhu, 18th in the badminton rankings, comprehensively beat 17-year-old compatriot Unnati Hooda 21-12, 21-9 in the women's singles semi-finals of the BWF Super 300 tournament.

A two-time Olympic medallist, PV Sindhu will face the People's Republic of China's Wu Luo Yu, ranked 119th, in the final on Sunday.

The Indian badminton player's last title on the BWF World Tour was at the Singapore Open in July 2022.

"Hunter Was Singled Out": Joe Biden Pardons Son In 2 Criminal Cases

US President Joe Biden said on Sunday he had pardoned his son, Hunter Biden, who had been convicted of making false statements on a gun background check and illegally possessing a firearm and plead guilty to federal tax charges.

"Today, I signed a pardon for my son Hunter. From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department's decision-making, and I kept my word even as I have watched my son being selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted," he said in a statement released by the White House.

The White House had said repeatedly that Biden would not pardon or commute the sentences of his son, a recovering drug addict who became a target of Republicans, including President-elect Donald Trump.

"No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter's cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son," Biden said.

"There has been an effort to break Hunter - who has been five and a half years sober, even in the face of unrelenting attacks and selective prosecution. In trying to break Hunter, they've tried to break me - and there's no reason to believe it will stop here. Enough is enough."

Biden said he had made the decision over the weekend. The president, his wife, Jill Biden, and their family including Hunter, spent the Thanksgiving holiday in Nantucket, Massachusetts and returned to Washington on Saturday night.

"Here's the truth: I believe in the justice system, but as I have wrestled with this, I also believe raw politics has infected this process and it led to a miscarriage of justice - and once I made this decision this weekend, there was no sense in delaying it further," Biden said.

"I hope Americans will understand why a father and a President would come to this decision."

2 Children Among 5 Who Died Of Heart Attack Within 25 Days In Aligarh

Children aged 14 and 8 - a boy and a girl - are among the five people who died of heart attack within 25 days in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh.

Mamata Chaudhary, of Arana village, used to go on a daily run as she was preparing for a physical test for a constable's job in the state police. On November 23, while running in the morning, she suffered a heart attack and collapsed. She was 20. The doctors at the JN medical college said that she died of a heart attack.

"She had covered some 4-5 rounds of the ground. Thereafter, she collapsed on the ground," said Jaykumar, Mamata's brother.

Mohit Chaudhary, from Sirauli village, was a student of Class 6. The 14-year-old boy was preparing for the annual sports day competition. During a practice run on Friday, he suffered a heart attack and died soon after.

On Sunday, eight-year-old Diksha, a Lodhi Nagar resident, while playing with her friends suffered a heart attack and died.

Earlier on November 5, pediatrician Dr Lavnish Aggarwal went for his regular morning walk and returned home. As he was getting ready for work, he had a heart attack and died.

Twenty-nine-year-old Saiyad Barkat Haider died in his sleep on November 20. The reason: a massive heart attack.

"He slept at night and when I did not hear him snore, I checked up on him. I realised he is dead. The doctors said he died of a heart attack," said Ahmad Mustafa Siddiqui, a cousin of Saiyad Barkat Haider.

A city cardiologist said that cases of heart attacks have increased since the pandemic.

"In the last two to three years after Covid, it has been seen that cases of heart attacks have increased among young people. Stress was a big factor in such patients," said Dr Asar Kamal, Cardiologist, Kamal Heart Care Centre in Aligarh.

Aligarh's Chief Medical Officer Neeraj Tyagi did not elaborate on the deaths but stressed on taking precautions.

Professor M Rabbani, of the Aligarh Muslim University, said deaths by cardiac arrest has increased by 22% over the last 20 years.

"If any healthy person dies within an hour, it is called sudden cardiac arrest. It has increased by 22 percent in the last 20 years. Mostly this reason is heart attack. However, some children have congenital heart disease. If it is not examined, further damage may occur. If a child complains of shortness of breath and chest pain, it should be examined immediately," said professor M Rabbani, Aligarh Muslim University.

"The Indian Council of Medical research conducted a study. There was no increase in sudden cardiac arrest due to vaccination, according to the data. But those who were seriously affected by Covid, the chances of heart attack increases in them. Such people must get themselves screened, which consists of some minor tests," the professor added.
