Biden Falls At US Air Force Academy Graduation Ceremony

President Joe Biden took a face-first tumble on Thursday after tripping over an obstacle on stage at the Air Force Academy in Colorado, but he appeared unhurt.

Biden, 80, who had delivered the commencement address to graduates of the military academy, had just shaken hands with a cadet and begun walking back to his seat when he fell.

Air Force personnel helped him back up and he did not appear to require further help.

As he rose, Biden pointed to the object that had apparently caught his foot. It resembled a small black sandbag on the stage.

White House Communications Director Ben LaBolt tweeted shortly afterward that "he's fine. There was a sandbag on stage while he was shaking hands."

Biden is the oldest person ever in the presidency and is seeking a second term in the 2024 election. His official doctor's report this year declared him physically fit and he exercises regularly.

In November 2020, shortly after winning his election against the incumbent Donald Trump, Biden broke his foot while playing with a pet dog.

"Will Win By 50,000 Votes": Trinamool Vow In Suvendu Adhikari's Nandigram

The Trinamool Congress held a huge rally today in Bengal's Nandigram, venturing into the territory it lost to BJP's Suvendu Adhikari in the state elections. The coming panchayat polls in the state will be seen as litmus test before next year's general election and the Trinamool is determined to put up a good show in the area where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had lost a straight fight with her aide-turned rival two years ago.

Party MP and Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee, who led the 20-km rally in Nandigram as part of the party's Nabo Jowar (New Wave) campaign, alleged that Suvendu Adhikari had won through "load-shedding" -- hinting at electoral malpractice.

"The results of 2021 Bengal elections in Nandigram were falsified. The people of this land know exactly what happened," he said. In the next election, the Trinamool candidate will win by over 50,000 votes, added the leader, who is on a statewide public outreach march called the "Jono Sanjog Yatra".

Mr Adhikari is yet to respond.

While Mr Banerjee was touring Nandigram, he had visited Garh Salboni in Jhargram district, where the Trinamool leader's convoy was attacked last week, and met families of the people arrested in the case.

"The CPM government did it here, and now the TMC government is doing it -- detaining people without trial. I stopped it that time, and will do it now as well," he was quoted as saying by news agency Press Trust of India.

"Poor people are being tortured here. This cannot go on. People of all political parties are there within the Kurmi community. Divisions are being created between tribals and Kurmis," he said, promising the families of those arrested all kinds of assistance, reported PTI.

The Nandigram and Singur agitations against land acquisition had catapulted Mamata Banerjee to power in 2011, after CPM's 35-year regime in the state. Suvendu Adhikari, an aide of Mamata Banerjee during the Nandigram agitation, quit the party in 2021 and joined the BJP.

In the elections that followed, Ms Banerjee had contested from Nandigram – a move that had drawn eyeballs and recharged the party.

A case challenging Mr Adhikari's victory in the election is pending in the Calcutta High Court.

But Nandigram is back in focus again ahead of next year's general election, which will be crucial for Trinamool.

In the 2019 election, the BJP had managed to win 18 of Bengal's 42 Lok Sabha seats – pushing CPM to the third spot in the state and posing serious challenge to Trinamool.

Jordan Crown Prince Weds Saudi Architect In Lavish Ceremony

Jordan's Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah married Saudi architect Rajwa Al Saif on Thursday in a wedding attended by royals from across the globe. The ceremony took place in the mid-century Zahran Palace in the capital Amman - the scene of other key Hashemite kingdom weddings including that of King Abdullah II to Queen Rania and also that of his father, the late King Hussein bin Talal.

The King's eldest son and Al Saif, both aged 28, tied the knot at a ceremony attended by their families and 140 guests, including US First Lady Jill Biden and Britain's Prince and Princess of Wales.

King Abdullah II, aged 61 and on the throne since 1999, has long groomed his eldest son to succeed him, bringing him on important visits and to meetings, former information minister Samih Maaytah previously told AFP. Prince Hussein became heir to the throne in 2009 after his father removed the title from his half-brother Hamzah in 2004. Hamzah would later be placed under house arrest after being accused of attempting to stage a royal coup in 2021 that sent shockwaves through the royal establishment.

In April 2022, Hamzah renounced his royal title, saying that his own values no longer aligned with those of "our institutions". The newly titled Princess Rajwa was born in Riyadh. She descends from the Al Sudayri family of Najd in what became modern-day Saudi Arabia, known to be closely linked to the Saudi royal family.

Wedding motorcade 

Other notable guests included the Netherlands' King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, as well as Belgium's King Philippe and Crown Princess Elisabeth and Danish Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary. The highly anticipated nuptials were met by celebrations across Jordan, with thousands gathering to witness the procession in Amman in streets decorated for the occasion with pictures of the couple and banners.

A royal red motorcade, reserved for special occasions, crossed the capital from Zahran Palace in the centre to Husseiniya Palace in the west. "We are certainly very happy with the crown prince's wedding. This is the joy of all of Jordan," said Sawsan Rifaia, 26, clad in a white shirt with a picture of the newlyweds and a red Jordanian keffiyeh wrapped over her white headscarf.

Jordan enjoys relative stability compared to its Middle East neighbours but has seen protests in recent years as it struggles with economic woes. The World Bank says Jordan is heavily in debt and faces around 23 per cent unemployment. The country relies extensively on foreign aid.

The Jordanian king has wide-ranging political powers in a nation of 11 million people, a parliamentary monarchy, and he is also the supreme leader of the armed forces. Hussein followed in his father's footsteps by attending Britain's Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and then studying history at Washington's Georgetown University.

His bride was born and raised in conservative Saudi Arabia but is also Western-educated, having studied architecture at Syracuse University in New York.

India Conducts Successful Training Launch Of Agni-1 Ballistic Missile

India on Thursday carried out a successful training launch of the Agni-1 ballistic missile that validated all operational and technical parameters of the strategic weapon.

The defence ministry said the Strategic Forces Command (SFC) carried out the missile launch from APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha.

"A successful training launch of a medium-range ballistic missile, Agni-1, was carried out by the Strategic Forces Command from APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha, on June 1," it said in a statement.

"The missile is a proven system, capable of striking targets with a very high degree of precision. The user training launch successfully validated all operational and technical parameters of the missile," it said.

In the last two decades, India has been focusing on enhancing its strategic deterrent capability by developing various ballistic missiles, precision-guided munitions and related platforms.

India has developed various variants of the Agni series of missiles.

In December last, India successfully test-fired nuclear-capable ballistic missile Agni-V that can strike targets at ranges up to 5,000 km.

The Agni 1 to 4 missiles have ranges from 700 km to 3,500 km and they have already been deployed.

In April, India successfully carried out the maiden flight trial of an endo-atmospheric interceptor missile from a ship off the coast of Odisha in the Bay of Bengal as part of its ambitious ballistic missile defence programme.

The purpose of the trial of the sea-based missile was to engage and neutralize a hostile ballistic missile threat, thereby elevating India into an elite club of nations having such a capability.

The BMDs are capable of intercepting incoming long-range nuclear missiles and hostile aircraft including AWACS (airborne warning and control systems). India has been developing capabilities to intercept hostile ballistic missiles both inside and outside the earth's atmospheric limits.
