"My Third Birth": HD Kumaraswamy After Recovering From Stroke

Former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, who has recovered from a stroke due to timely treatment, said on Sunday that this was his "third birth".

Giving credit to God and the team of doctors who treated him, the JD(S) second-in-command said he got a new lease of life to be amidst the people of the state.

Before being discharged, Mr Kumaraswamy also appealed to the people not to take the symptoms of stroke and paralysis lightly.

"For the past five days, some of my friends were in fear. If I am talking to you, then I must say that I got a rebirth," the former chief minister said.

"With regard to my health, God has given me a third birth. If a person gets one birth, in my case I am of the opinion that in my 64 years of age, I got my third birth," he added.

Mr Kumaraswamy was hospitalised in the early hours of August 30 at a reputed hospital in the city.

Doctors treating him said he had had a stroke, which was then cured completely.

Recalling the turn of events that led to his hospitalisation, the JD(S) leader said he woke up at about 2 am on August 30 and felt his health was not in good condition.

The JD(S) leader said he quickly called his brother-in-law and eminent cardiologist Dr C N Manjunath and later consulted a neurologist who advised him to get admitted.

Mr Kumaraswamy appealed to the people of the state not to waste even a single minute whenever they come across such symptoms.

"I sensed the symptoms of paralysis at 2 am. If had ignored it and said I will go to the doctor in the morning, I would have spent the rest of my life permanently on the bed," he said.

He said never think that doctors are working to make money because when the patient comes, they sincerely make an effort to save them.

Speaking on the occasion, eminent neurologist and former director of NIMHANS Dr P Satishchandra said people should be aware of the 'BE-FAST' method to detect a stroke -- where B stands for Balance, E for Eyes, F for Face, A for Arms, S for Speech and T for Time.

"These are the five symptoms. If there is less strength in the arm, if one lisps or stammers, if there is difficulty in eyes, if there are changes in the face, then without wasting time rush to a hospital," he said.

It is also important to take the patient to the right hospital, Dr Satishchandra added. He said the hospital where the patient is taken should be stroke ready.

"It should be a hospital which has all the equipment and experts required for treating stroke patients. Then we get the time. We call it the 'golden hour', which means the patient should be brought within three hours. Once the patient is brought within three hours, we get one hour to start our other works," the doctor explained.

US Woman Fatally Shoots Girl, 4, While Trying To Demonstrate Gun Safety

A 25-year-old woman in the United States is under arrest for fatally shooting a 4-year-old girl on Sunday while demonstrating gun safety. According to a press release by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), the woman, identified as Breanna Runions, was charged with murder and aggravated child abuse in relation to the death of Evangeline Gunter. 

During an investigation, authorities determined that Ms Runions caused the injuries that led to the girl's death. As per the New York Post, at the time of arrest, she told the officials that she was trying to demonstrate gun safety when she pulled the trigger. 

However, Ms Runions statement was contradicted by her girlfriend and a 7-year-old who were present at the scene. According to their statement, Ms Runions punished the two children for not waking up the adults and eating food that belonged to her girlfriend. They reportedly told the cops that she then hit both the children with a sandal and made them stand in different corners of the bedroom, where the adults slept. 

Following this, Ms Runions then summoned the 4-year-old to show her "firearm safety". At this point, she pressed the barrel of the gun into the front of the child's torso and pulled the trigger, the outlet reported. 

Shortly afterwards, the 25-year-old and her girlfriend rushed the little girl to the hospital, but she was pronounced dead at Roane Medical Center, officials said.

Ms Runions' girlfriend was present in the room but did not see the shooting because she was looking away, as per authorities. They also stated that the suspect "may have initially led the investigation to believe that she was demonstrating to the scared 4-year-old 'firearms safety'". 

On the other hand, the girl's mother, Josie Gunter, reportedly said that the little girl lived at the house because of a court order and was only supposed to be there for two more months. "I feel like it's my fault that I let her be there. I should have been more attentive," she said. "I wish I could have been a better mother for her, to pay attention," the mother added. 

The case is currently under investigation. For now, Ms Runions is in custody on a $1.5 million bond.

Chandrayaan-3's Rover Completes Assignments, Safely Parked, Put To Sleep

The Chandrayaan-3 mission's rover Pragyan has completed its assignments, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said today. The rover has been safely parked and put into sleep mode, ISRO said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

"Currently, the battery is fully charged. The solar panel is oriented to receive light at the next sunrise expected on September 22, 2023. The receiver is kept on," ISRO said.

"Hoping for a successful awakening for another set of assignments. Else, it will forever stay there as India's lunar ambassador," the space agency said.

Chandrayaan-3 Mission:
The Rover completed its assignments.

It is now safely parked and set into Sleep mode.
APXS and LIBS payloads are turned off.
Data from these payloads is transmitted to the Earth via the Lander.

Currently, the battery is fully charged.

The 26-kg, six-wheeled, solar-powered rover Pragyan is equipped to use its scientific instruments to record what the lunar soil and rocks are made of in the south polar region where Chandrayaan-3's lander Vikram touched down.

ISRO said APXS and LIBS payloads have been turned off and data from these payloads is transmitted to Earth via lander Vikram.

The APXS instrument is best suited for in situ analysis of the elemental composition of soil and rocks on the surface of planetary bodies having little atmosphere, such as the Moon. APXS observations have discovered the presence of interesting minor elements, including sulphur, apart from the major expected elements such as aluminium, silicon, calcium and iron.

The Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscope (LIBS) instrument on board the rover has already confirmed the presence of sulphur.

Mississippi Hunter Kills Longest Alligator Weighing 364 Kg, Pics Go Viral

Mississippi hunters have killed the longest alligator ever found in the US State. According to the Mississippi Department of Wildfire, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP), the record-breaking animal measured 14 feet and 3 inches long and weighed 364kg. The alligator was captured in the state's Yazoo River.

According to USA Today, the fight to catch the alligator lasted from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Hunter Donald Woods told the media outlet that the group had seen "a lot of 8-footers, 10-footers" but were chasing something bigger.

"We've been hunting these things a long time," he said.

The fisherman said that the had no idea how large the alligator was while trying to catch it.

"We knew he was wide," Mr Woods said. "His back was humungous. It was like we were following a Jon boat.

"We held onto him a while, until 10 or so. He broke my rod at that point.

"We hooked him eight or nine times and he kept breaking off. He would go down, sit and then take off. He kept going under logs. He knew what he was doing. The crazy thing is he stayed in that same spot," he added.

The hunters said that the fight was mentally exhausting. "He dictated everything we did. It was exhausting, but you're adrenaline is going so you don't notice it. It was more mentally exhausting than anything because he kept getting off."

After fighting throughout the night, the alligator finally started tiring. "We were down to pretty much down to those two rods and reels at that point."

The previous record for the "longest male alligator taken by a permitted hunter in Mississippi" belonged to a 14-foot, 0.75-inch-long (4.29 m) animal weighing 766.5 pounds (347.5 kg) that hunters captured in 2017 near the western city of Natchez.
