"10 Years Of Lots And Lots Of Failures": Samson's Outburst Ahead of T20 WC

Despite being focused on leading his team in the IPL, the thought of the impending World Cup selections was at the back of his mind and he has come "most prepared", said Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson. The Rajasthan Royals skipper had another successful IPL season where he scored 531 runs including five half-centuries and he finally got his due when he was selected in the 15-member India squad for the T20 World Cup in the US and West Indies.

India play their opening match against Ireland on Wednesday.

"This is the most prepared or experienced Sanju Samson has come into this World Cup, actually," said Samson in video posted by the BCCI on Monday.

"Ten years of lots and lots of failures, few successes here and there. Life in cricket has taught me everything I needed to know before we come to this crucial tournament." 

A highly underrated wicketkeeper-batter, Samson despite his prolific run with the bat in the IPL, has played just 16 ODIs and 25 T20Is.

"The IPL covered all my mind space, I think. There was a lot to do, there was a lot to think being the captain of the side. I think my mind was always occupied, but somewhere at the back of the mind it was there, the World Cup selections are also around." The 29-year-old added that getting the call-up to represent the country in the World Cup was like a dream come true.

"It was a huge thing, actually. It was like one of the best things which could have happened to my career and those thoughts keep on playing." The Kerala cricketer said that despite having a remarkable season, where his side led the IPL table for most part, he knew securing a place in the India side was not a surety.

"I knew I've had a reasonable good season in the IPL where I do have my chances to get in. But, at the same time, I knew how tough it is. It can be either both sides because it depends on what the team wants, the exact combination our team management or the selectors are looking for," said Samson.

"So the moment I got convinced that 'Sanju you are ready', I think the life and cricket gave it back to me. So, that's how I like to look at it. So, it was a great moment." 

Samson said failures and successes in his career have taught him to always look at things in positive light.

"I always look at things in a more positive manner, even if it's a failure or a setback that's when you actually learn about it. When you are young and you are having lots and lots of success, you actually skip a few lessons actually.

"I think I've been blessed to get some insane talent with my batting skills, that come very naturally to me, I don't do anything specific but I don't know how actually it comes. It just actually comes." The cricketer said the moment he landed in New York, the IPL was completely off his mind and he was living in the moment.

"Right from the moment I landed here, IPL has been like completely off and it's been a completely different stage and I'm telling myself 'Sanju you are somewhere (else). I think lots and lots of people dream about and then its like 'Ok boss, what else I need to do.

"I didn't have to motivate myself; it was like automatically, things were supposed to happen and it was happening and and when you get into that atmosphere when you meet Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, you look at them and then you get inspired.

"Then you get motivated and then there is no looking back. You are only looking in front. How can a Sanju Samson help the team win more games," he added.

Governor Versus Trinamool On Poll-Related Violence In Sandeshkhali

Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose has demanded a report from the ruling Trinamool Congress on the violence in Sandeshkhali on poll day. But he was met with a rebuff. Senior party leader Shashi Panja said the Governor should "first explain what is the status of the sexual harassment probe against him".

The letter posted on X, formerly Twitter, from Raj Bhavan, mentioned that the Governor has kept a "close watch on the evolving situation during the last phase of the elections in the state".

"Such ghastly incidents of violence in Sandeshkhali, particularly on women, are the manifestations of the frustration which is faced by those who control the police in the State. Any expectation that the people's anger against injustices by the misguided authorities can be crushed by violence is not acceptable," read the letter from the Governor, who was among the first to visit Sandeshkhali after reports of sexual harassment of women by a local leader of the Trinamool Congress.

In February, Sandeshkhali, an island in the Sundarbans, erupted, with a group of people, mostly women, holding massive protest marches against the local Trinamool leader Sheikh Shahjahan, accusing him of land grabbing and sexual exploitation.

The massive political row that followed made it one of the key election issues.

Events on the ground, though, went through multiple twists and turns, the last of which involved a viral video that claimed that some women were bribed by a BJP leader who wanted them to claim that they had been raped.

On Saturday, as the seventh and the last phase of election was in progress, clashes broke out between supporters of the BJP and Trinamool in Sandeshkhali over allegations of electoral malpractices. BJP candidate Rekha Patra alleged that Trinamool goons stopped people from casting their votes. The Trinamool accused her and BJP goons of trying to vitiate the poll atmosphere.

The two groups came to blows on the Basanti Express highway, and the police used batons and tear gas to restore calm.

Less than 24 hours later, Sandeshkhali witnessed another round of skirmishes between women and the police.

Earlier today, women in Agarhati village got involved in a scuffle with the Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel, fell tree trunks, and blocked roads when the police went in search of a few persons who allegedly attacked them on Saturday.

Video Shows Window Cleaners Dangling From Beijing Tower During Storm

A sudden windstorm in Beijing transformed a routine cleaning into a terrifying ordeal. High above the city, crew members clung precariously to their cables as the CCTV headquarters swayed in the gusts.

Videos of the incident have surfaced on the internet. The clip shows raging winds sending the workers swinging wildly on their ropes, hundreds of meters above the ground. The workers were seen battling to steady themselves against the wind's fury as it whipped across Beijing.

At 234 meters tall with a vast 473,000 square meter footprint, the CCTV Tower is a prominent landmark.

Local media later reported the workers' safe rescue, a welcome end to this terrifying ordeal.

Newspaper Shanghai Daily posted on X: “High-altitude maintenance workers were seen swaying in the strong winds outside the CCTV Headquarters in Beijing's Central Business District on Thursday. Hoping for their safety.”

The China Central Television Tower rises in Beijing's central business district, within the Chaoyang District.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service issued multiple warnings as thunderstorms and strong winds lashed the capital. Gusts were accompanied by light rain, and the city remained on red alert due to scorching temperatures. Beijing wasn't alone -  many parts of the Northern Hemisphere sweltered under a heat wave, with neighbouring New Delhi experiencing temperatures exceeding 45 degrees Celsius.

Just weeks prior, heavy flooding ravaged southern China, forcing tens of thousands to evacuate and leaving over a million homes powerless.
