Trump Says "Will Not Put Up" With Zelensky's Stance On Ceasefire

Donald Trump said Monday that Washington would "not put up with" Volodymyr Zelensky's rhetoric much longer, as the US president prepared to meet his top team after a disastrous Oval Office row with the Ukrainian.

"This is the worst statement that could have been made by Zelensky, and America will not put up with it for much longer," Trump said on social media, citing a story quoting Ukraine's president saying the end of the war with Moscow was far off.

"This guy doesn't want there to be Peace as long as he has America's backing."

Trump also took aim at European leaders who met Zelensky for crisis talks in London at the weekend, saying that they had "stated flatly that they cannot do the job without the US."

"Probably not a great statement to have been made in terms of a show of strength against Russia. What are they thinking," Trump said on his Truth Social network.

Trump's broadside came after a meeting between Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Zelensky at the White House on Friday which descended into an extraordinary on-camera argument.

Trump and Vance raised their voices and accused Zelensky of being disrespectful and ungrateful for US military assistance, as the Ukrainian pushed his demand for US security guarantees as part of any truce.

Zelensky was then told to leave the White House, with a crucial deal giving Washington preferential access to Ukraine's mineral resources left unsigned.

Trump is now meeting his top advisors on Monday to discuss next steps on Ukraine, US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz told reporters.

White House officials did not confirm a report by the news outlet Axios that Trump was considering cutting all military aid to Kyiv following the row.

European leaders, who have offered peacekeepers to guarantee any ceasefire but also want a US "backstop", met in London on Sunday in a desperate bid to resolve the row.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke by telephone Monday with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy to discuss the leaders' meeting in London.

Rubio "confirmed the United States is ready to negotiate to end the Ukraine-Russia conflict and will continue working with the UK towards peace in Ukraine," State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said.

"Dismayed": Shashi Tharoor On Kerala Startups Days After Remark Sparked Row

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Sunday backtracked on his stance regarding industrial growth in Kerala, stating that the state needs more MSME start-ups — not just on paper.

Sharing a news report from an English daily on 'X', Mr Tharoor expressed disappointment over the state's start-up ecosystem, saying it was not as promising as reported.

"Dismayed to see that the Kerala start-up entrepreneurship story is not what's been reported," he posted.

The news report he shared claimed that over 42,000 MSMEs had shut down in Kerala over the past nine years, resulting in the loss of employment for at least 1,03,764 workers.

"The only silver lining is that at least the GoK's claims point to the right intentions. We need more MSME start-ups— and not just on paper. Kerala must head this way!" his post added.

However, State Industries Minister P Rajeeve dismissed the news report as "baseless." "I provided a detailed reply in the Assembly on February 10. Recently, Union Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal stated in Parliament that 1,700 MSMEs shut down in Kerala over the past four years," he said.

Mr Rajeeve further pointed out that while 30 per cent of MSMEs in the country shut down within their first year, the figure in Kerala was only 15 per cent.

He alleged that the report was published with ulterior motives, as it did not cite the source of its figures.

Mr Tharoor's recent remarks on Kerala's industrial growth sparked controversy within the Congress state unit.

The Congress Working Committee member ruffled feathers in the party after writing an article in an English daily praising the industrial policy of the Pinarayi Vijayan government in Kerala.

Notably, the Thiruvananthapuram MP's post came just two days after the Congress leadership held a brainstorming session with Kerala leaders at the party headquarters in New Delhi to strategise for next year's Assembly polls.

"Artistes Are Not Slaves Of Congress": BJP Rips Into DK Shivakumar

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar's "nuts and bolts" comment about cine artistes has drawn indignant protests from the state's Opposition BJP. The state's Leader of the Opposition R Ashoka said it was up to the artistes whether they join a political protest or not and it showed a "bad mindset" on his part. "Artists are not slaves of the Congress party, and despite their support, movies are not succeeding," he said in a statement.

"Artistes are not your party workers. Don't treat artists the way you treat your party workers. Learn to respect artists," read a rough translation of his vernacular post on social media platform X.

"Dear DCM DK Shivakumar, it is not upto the Congress party's discretion whether or not film artists will come to the political march. Your statement that artists who march for the Congress party will get recognition, otherwise they will not, does not bring glory to your position.

"Threats and hooliganism have no place in democracy. The BJP government had provided significant support to the film industry. If actor Ambareesh were alive today, he would have given a fitting response. The film industry must condemn these statements, as they are an insult to artists. D.K. Shivakumar should apologize," he said in a statement.

Nikhil Kumaraswamy of Janata Dal Secular said it was the prerogative of actors to support any movement launched in the state. "Some might have decided against participating to stop identifying themselves with any party," he said.

On Saturday, Mr Shivakumar, in an outburst at the inauguration of Bengaluru International Film Festival, slammed the film fraternity for its thin turnout at the event as well as the Congress's Mekedatu padayatra. "If the government does not grant permission for shooting, they cannot make a film. They cannot proceed with shooting. I also know exactly where to tighten the nuts and bolts, please understand that," he had said.

Then he had doubled down on the comment in face of criticism. 

"This film festival is not a private event of some politicians and some actors. It is a programme for the entire industry, yet only a few actors have participated. Why should the government conduct the film festival if the actors, directors, producers and exhibitors are not interested? Treat it as an appeal or as a caution, but the film fraternity must attend such events in the future," read a statement from his office.

The statement also clarified his stand about the foot march, underscoring it was about ensuring drinking water for Bengaluru.

"Mekedatu padayatra was to get drinking water for Bengaluru. It was a fight for the interest of the state. In spite of the Covid, Siddaramaiah and I took out a 150 km padayatra. No one from the film industry, with the exception of a few, turned up to show their support in spite of us extending invitations to all. I am angry about it," he said.

The 2022 foot march demanded the implementation of a balancing reservoir in Kanakapura taluk of Ramanagara district.

"Reflects Their Mindset...": Ashwin Launches Scathing Attack On England

England flattered to deceive in the Champions Trophy 2025, culminating in yet another group stage exit from a major ICC tournament. England were defeated by Afghanistan on Wednesday, confirming their elimination from the Champions Trophy. It was also their sixth defeat in a row in ODIs, following on from a disastrous 0-3 series defeat against India. The England team has come under attack from several experts, and the latest to join that list is legendary Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. The 37-year-old also picked out Harry Brook for criticism.

"There is no consistent template in your batting. You were marketing and branding Harry Brook as the next generation sensation. But Harry Brook's game is also sinking. He is now under immense pressure to produce match-winning knocks," Ashwin said, speaking on his YouTube channel.

Ashwin criticised England's mentality, highlighting opener Ben Duckett's comment after the India series. Duckett had stated that he did not mind losing 0-3 to India as long as they beat them in the Champions Trophy.

"It reflects their mindset. Is it so easy to go to a major competition and win the final?" Ashwin questioned.

This is the second successive 50-over tournament where England have failed to make the knockout stage, after the 2023 World Cup. On that occasion, England had finished seventh out of 10 teams.

Ashwin also raised concern over England's approach during the 'Bazball' era.

"I saw Jos Buttler's post-match interview (after losing to Afghanistan). He was very candid in saying, 'I do not know what my leadership aspirations are in the future'," Ashwin pointed out.

"England, I still feel, treats sub-continental tours just as a tick box. Has the time come for England to really dig in and think about it," Ashwin stated.

"What's happened with England in this Bazball generation is something that they have to retrospect," he added.

On Wednesday, England failed to chase down a target of 326, despite being in the run chase all the way through. England kept losing wickets at crucial intervals, ultimately resulting in their second successive defeat to Afghanistan in 50-over ICC tournaments.

England were in dreadful form heading into the Champions Trophy as well. They lost 2-1 to West Indies in a three-match ODI series, before being outclassed by India in India.

Once the reigning champion of both the T20 World Cup and the ODI World Cup at the same time, things have gone pear-shaped for England now, particularly in white-ball cricket.
